Build a blog

This recipe covers the two blog pages: the listing page and the post layout.

The listing page

Order Module Purpose
1 Single Column Banner - Simple A short blog header
2 Blog Section Featured or recent posts
3 Blog Listing The main post grid
4 Blog Pagination Navigation between pages of posts

The blog post

The post is a template, not a stack of modules. Pick one of four layouts and style it from Theme Settings.

Layout Header Best for
Classic Centred column Most blogs
Cover Full width photo band Posts with a strong lead image
Sidebar Body beside a sticky rail Long, structured posts
Split header Text one side, image the other Editorial posts

See Blog post templates for what each one can do.

Two modules sit below the article on every layout:

Module Purpose
Blog Post - Recent Post Related or recent reading
Blog Comments Discussion, if the blog allows comments

Steps

  1. Create a blog in HubSpot and assign one of the four Flexoraa blog post templates.
  2. Build the listing page with the listing stack above.
  3. Set Theme Settings > Blog > Color scheme to Light or Dark.
  4. Style the post at Theme Settings > Blog > Blog post - [layout] settings.
  5. Set the wording and hide any elements you do not want in the Blog settings module.
  6. Add Blog Tags if you want readers to filter by topic.
  7. Enable Blog Comments if you want reader discussion.

Tips

Guide the reader onward

Leave the subscribe block and Recent Post on so readers keep moving through your site. Both are switched from the Blog settings module.

Wording is global, styling is per layout

Labels such as "Back to blog" and "Share this post" live in the Blog settings module and apply to every post. Colours, sizes and spacing live per layout in Theme Settings, so changing Classic never affects Cover.

Author and tag pages

The Blog Author & Tag Page module adds a spotlight header to author and tag listing pages.
