Blog layout - Cover

A global module holding every design setting the Cover blog post layout uses, with one entry per blog. It renders nothing itself. Best for: launch posts and features that need a strong opening image.

At a glance

Blog Global Configuration

  • What it does: stores the wording, the show/hide switches and the full styling for the Cover layout.
  • One module per layout: templates/blog/blog-post-cover.html loads only this one, so every field here applies to the layout you are editing.
  • Per blog: one entry per blog, so two blogs using this same layout can look completely different.
  • Renders nothing: it produces no markup of its own.

Find it under Hidden modules

Because it outputs nothing, HubSpot's editor lists it under Hidden modules. Open that section to edit it. This is expected, not a fault.

One entry per blog

The Blogs group is a repeater. Add one entry per blog you want to style separately.

Field What to put in it
Blog slug or ID The blog's slug, the part of its URL after the domain, or its numeric ID
Color scheme Light or Dark for the post itself

A post reads the entry whose key matches the blog it belongs to. Any blog without an entry of its own falls back to the first entry, so one entry is enough for a single blog site.

Changing layout is not done here

A blog's layout is its post template, set at Settings > Content > Blog > Templates. Changing it swaps which of the four Blog layout modules the template loads.

Show/hide settings

Switches that remove an element from every post on this layout. All on by default.

Switch Removes
Back to blog link The link above the title
Blog tags The tag chips
Blog publish date The date in the byline
Blog read time The reading time in the byline
Blog author with image The author name and photo
Blog featured image The post image
Blogpost social media share The share buttons and their label
Previous and next post The two cards below the article
Subscribe form The subscribe block

The title has no switch

A post always needs a visible heading, so the title cannot be hidden.

Wording

Every user facing string sits under Wording, in labelled subgroups: back to blog, date and read time, share post, previous and next post, accessibility labels and the subscribe form. Because wording lives inside the blog entry, two blogs can use different labels.

The accessibility labels are read aloud by screen readers and never shown on screen. Translate them when your site is not in English.

What this layout adds

Area Controls
Cover band Vertical alignment, image position, and its own padding per breakpoint.
Height modes Automatic, a fixed height per breakpoint, or the full viewport height.
Overlay A solid colour, a gradient, or an untinted darkening that flips the text to the dark palette automatically.

Shared spacing and gradients

A small group outside the per blog entries, on the Styles tab. HubSpot allows neither spacing nor gradient fields inside a repeating group, so these apply to every blog rather than to one:

  • Section and body spacing, per breakpoint
  • Card padding for the subscribe and previous/next cards
  • The gradient pickers for tags, share buttons and the subscribe card

Because they sit outside the entries they cannot be hidden conditionally, so they are always visible. Each one's help text names the per blog setting that actually switches it on.

Top padding means the gap below the header

The header clearance is added separately when the header overlays the page, so this value is the space below the header, not from the top of the viewport.
